Breaking News: Voting Not Rocket Science

Today Wired News is reporting problems with the electronic voting machines. Machines that won't boot up, machines that have ballots pre-filled (what the hell) and touch screens that don't work.

Voting isn't rocket science people.

The process used here is easy to understand, and fail proof:

  1. You grab a paper ballot.
  2. You use a ball point pen to put an X by the name of the cadidate you wish to vote for.
  3. You place ballot in bin containing other ballots.
  4. Ballots are counted by representatives from both major parties, and noone goes home until they agree.

There are no hanging chads, no machines controlled by corporations, no touch screens that don't work. Using all these fancy systems is making a very simple problem a very complex problem. Voting isn't rocket science, why do you insist on making it so?
