Earlier today Eric Meyer released a Final Candiate version of S⁵ — his cross-browser slide show format (announcement). I have added S⁵ support to my slide show manager. I felt I had to change the name from OperaShow Manager to Simple Slide Show Manager because it now supports two formats: OperaShow Format and S⁵. With these two easy to use presentation formats my Simple Slide Show Manager is hopefully an easy way of managing presentations.

A neat part of the Opera webbrowser is OperaShow. With OperaShow you can use Opera as a presentation tool. Just like Powerpoint, only better.

Yesterday I discovered that Opera had released a technical documentation for the OperaShow Format — a set of rules for how OperaShow files should look. I was all kinds of excited, and tonight I hacked together a quick tool to take advantage of OSF documents. The OperaShow Manager as I called it simple creates an overview of all OperaShow Presentation in a given folder. It lists the title, date, author venue and the amount of slides in each presentation. You can also upload presentations made with the OperaShow Generator. You can either look at a screenshot or you can download the OperaShow Manager (3.88 KB zip file; PHP version needs to be recent). Newer version available.

This is something I hacked together tonight so don't look at it as a finished piece of software. I just wanted to share my ideas. Improvements I will work on:

• Sort by title, date etc.
• Pull out more metadata like logos.
• Show stylesheet name.
• Make a public list so visitors can see your presentations.

I've released my OperaShow Manager under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License so go ahead and make any additions to the code. The code is probably a bit muddy at the moment. Shoot me a pingback or an e-mail if you do anything with the OperaShow Manager. I'd love to see it.
