I didn't shoot a lot of video at VlogEurope, but I did shoot some. Here are the voices of Schlomo, Duncan and Beatrice. It's only a minute long so you won't be bored. Also Deirdré did a massive write-up, don't miss it.

Here's some video shot on my cell phone during VlogEurope. Click the image below to start the video.

Originally I wanted to put my cell phone videos together in some kind of interactive movie, but I can't for the life of me find a place to download a demo of LiveStage Pro. The links on the company website are dead so I think I'm out of luck.

View from Deirdré's houseLate Wednesday night I got home from VlogEurope. The past few days I've been catching up after a week of Not Doing Work. VlogEurope was a success — I enjoyed it a lot anyway. Too many interesting people to count, both old friends and new ones, my favourite combination.

I stayed the entire week with Deirdré and her family. I cannot begin to describe the hospitaly there, not the beautiful location overlooking the town of Lecco where their house is. The photo to the right is the view from the balcony on a somewhat cloudy day. Anders and I travelled together to and from Italy. I hadn't seen him since February when I went to Stockholm so it was fantastic to catch up.

My main responsibility other than making sure noone got lost in Milan Thursday and Friday, was the session planning for the “formal” event Saturday. Overall everything went okay, but as a Scandinavian I had a bit of a hard time adjusting to the Italian way of dealing with time (ie. they don't). 10AM really means somewhere between 10 and 12 in Italy. Thankfully we had great sponsors in TheBlogTV, Digital Magics, il Cannocchiale and TVBlob. They handled all the silly negotiations with the venue. Turns out Italian bureaucracy is also a peculiar breed. We could not get open internet access. The only way we could get online was through two desktop computers, which we weren't allowed to use ourselves. There was a dedicated technician there to make sure we weren't downloading porn. Naturally, people went without using the internet and it was no problem at all.

The most valuable part of VlogEurope was not Saturday though. It was all the wonderful food and great conversations which happened in the days surrounding. I am very happy that I chose to stay a week (and I'm grateful that Deirdré and her family would put up with me for that long!). At one point Schlomo suggested that next year's event should be 3-4 days on conference, but only with sessions in the morning (e.g. 10-13) and then with the afternoon off for extracurricular activities. It's something to think about as it certainly opens up for a different kind of conversation.

My VlogEurope photo album has random photos and there's video coming sometime soon. You can find more material from the Media Dump wiki page.

And next year? Joel is in charge of that. It will be in the begining of September in Heidelberg, Germany. I don't know what my involvement will be yet, but I'll be sure to be among those attending!

VlogEurope Promo

Promo for VlogEurope. First in a series and you should make one too. VlogEurope is the event for European videobloggers. You can read more at vlogeurope.com.

VlogEuropeVlogEurope is an unconventional conference about videoblogging in Europe. It will go down November 18th and 19th in Milan, Italy. I'm one of the organizers and I'm very excited about the event.

What I'm really jazzed about is the concept we're calling the collaboration vortex. We're trying to create a space for conversation and creation rather than listening. People will be broken into smaller group for these sessions to discuss and collaboration around a given topic. It will be half coffee shop conversation, half workshop. Hopefully the result will be a collection of creative contributions to the the role of videoblogging in Europe. You can read more about the collaboration vortex on the VlogEurope website.

Apart from booking your plane ticket — discount airlines from all over Europe, apart from Denmark — I would really appreciate it if you took five minutes to add to the wiki. Specifically if you would add your own favourite topics for the collaboration vortex. There are already a handful listed, but more will always be better.
